Ocean Action Grant

I am reaching out to share a microgrant opportunity that provides youths and young professionals (age 15 to 30) in your school with up to $3,000 to turn their ideas to protect and advocate for our environment, climate, and ocean into action! Read below for details about this opportunity and how youths can apply.

From now until January 15, 2024, Ocean Wise is awarding microgrants to youths and young professionals ages 15 to 30 to lead volunteer activities that address climate change, pollution and biodiversity. While they are called Ocean Action Grants, we accept a wide range of project ideas. These grants are a great way for teachers and students/ student clubs to access funds to lead community or school-based service projects such as establishing and maintaining a garden, leading shoreline cleanups, hosting clothing swaps and the list goes on!

Eligible projects must:

·       Contribute to positive environmental change by addressing climate change, plastic & pollution, or biodiversity loss either directly (ex. reducing reliance on single-use plastics, restoring habitats, improving access to sustainable seafood, etc.) or indirectly (ex. encouraging nature connectedness, promoting accessibility & inclusivity in environmental spaces, raising awareness of environmental issues, combating climate anxiety & eco-grief, developing, and delivering education workshops and activities, etc.); and

·       Utilize the microgrant funds and submit a final or interim report by February 15, 2024 project activities may however continue beyond this date);

·       Be led by a youth or young professional aged 15 to 30 at the time of applying for the microgrant; and the lead youth must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person granted refugee status in Canada.

Deadlines

·       Applications are due on the 15th and 30th of each month until January 15th 2024
