Youth Futures Applications Due

The deadline to apply for the Youth Futures program is Monday, January 23rd! Youth futures is a free program that can help you build the skills for post-secondary school and/or to succeed in the workforce. Apply here: https://youth-futures.com/. The program is for youth 16-21, runs from March to August and includes:

  • Leadership and employment training (First Aid, High 5, CPR etc.)

  • Post-secondary orientation and planning

  • Six-week paid summer work placement

  • Mentors for 1:1 guidance

  • and much more!

Exam Period

Tuesday January 24th - Monday January 30th, 2023 are exam days on the OCDSB School Calendar this year. These days are not instructional days and, similar to Exam Days in the past, some students may have fewer in-school commitments; they will be a blend of exam days and Student Success Days. Courses with exams or practical evaluations (including interviews, performance tasks, etc.) can use these days to schedule these final evaluations. For any course (grades 9-12) where student evaluations are not taking place on the designated “exam days,” the days become Student Success Days for that course focussed on supporting credit rescue - (students will complete tasks, assignments, performances, etc. informed by their Student Evidence Record to earn their credit).

If your class is having a final evaluation/task during the exam period, it will occur in the morning starting at 9am. Student Success opportunities will be scheduled in the afternoons by subject area (if you are in need of these Student Success opportunities your teachers will be discussing & scheduling these with you before Jan. 24th). Both final evaluations and Student Success opportunities will follow this schedule:

Students are expected to be in attendance for their assessment/evaluation tasks on the designated Assessment/Evaluation/Student Success days at the end of the semester. Families are asked to avoid scheduling appointments and vacations during Student Success Days/Exam Days from January 24th to 30th inclusive. We ask that families keep all of these dates available for students to complete evaluation tasks, as it is sometimes necessary to change assessments/evaluation schedules within this time frame if there is inclement weather.

Students enrolled in credit courses are not expected to be in attendance at the school if they do not have a scheduled assessment/evaluation/Student Success task.

In the event of a student illness, a parent/guardian should contact the school directly in advance of the start time of the evaluation task. A voice mail and/or email can be left with the school right up to the start time of the evaluation task, if an illness emerges at the last minute.

Best of luck as you finish up this semester, Spartans!
