This program introduces students to the world of business, including the use of technology in the business environment, the functions of business and the jobs they create, the fundamental principles and procedures of accounting for business activities, the concepts of marketing and the analysis of trends and issues, and the challenges of conducting Canadian businesses in the global marketplace.

 

Grade 9: Information and Communication Technology in Business (BTT1O)

 

This course promotes digital literacy and the skills needed to succeed in the business world with technology. Students develop word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation software and website design skills.

 

Grade 10: Introduction to Business (BBI2O)

 

Students are introduced to human resources, marketing, finance, management and production and develop an appreciation for the importance of ethics and social responsibility. This course builds a foundation for further studies in business.

 

Grade 11: Introduction to Financial Accounting (BAF3M)

 

Students develop financial analysis and decision making skills that assist them in further studies and career opportunities in business. Current issues in accounting including ethics and financial crime are also investigated.

 

Grade 11: Introduction to Marketing (BMI3C)

 

This course introduces students to the strategies used by the marketing departments of businesses to create an exchange in the business world. Buying patterns and motives of consumers are analysed and students develop a marketing plan for a product or company.

 

Grade 12: Introduction to International Business (BBB4M)

 

This course provides an overview of the importance of international business and trade in the global economy and explores the factors that influence success in international markets. Students select a country to research throughout the course for opportunities for Canadian businesses. This course prepares students for postsecondary studies.

 

Grade 12: Principles of Financial Accounting (BAT4M)

 

This course introduces students to advanced accounting principles including sources of financing and accounting for the corporate form of business organization. Students will learn about financial reporting for different forms of business ownership and interpreting financial information. This course prepares students for postsecondary studies.
